Living in Pimpri-Chinchwad: which court will hear your case?

Adv. Indrajit DongreFounder & Senior AdvocateUpdated October 2026 · Reviewed for accuracy
Advocate explaining court jurisdiction for a Pimpri-Chinchwad case

Pimpri-Chinchwad has its own Magistrate and civil courts, which hear most police cases from PCMC police stations at the Magistrate stage, cheque bounce cases and many local civil suits. Serious criminal matters, anticipatory bail and family cases have mostly been heard in Pune at Shivajinagar. Because the PCMC court has been moving between buildings, always confirm the court establishment shown against your case on eCourts before you travel.

We meet a lot of people from Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Nigdi and Chikhali who are not sure whether to go to Pimpri or to Shivajinagar. Going to the wrong one on a hearing date is an easy mistake, and an expensive one.

How the PCMC court has changed

WhenWhat changed (as reported)
For about 25 yearsCourts functioned from a rented two-storey building at Morwadi, Pimpri
2023The Morwadi courts were to shift to a building in Nehrunagar; the bar association sought additional courts
March 2024Bhoomi pujan for a new court complex at Moshi; the first phase was announced with 26 court halls
2024An Additional Sessions Court and a senior-level court for Pimpri-Chinchwad were reported as approved
Check before you go: these dates come from news reports, and court locations can change between hearings. The eCourts entry for your case, and the notice or summons you received, show the establishment where it is actually listed.

Which matters usually go where

MatterUsually heard
FIR from a PCMC police station — Magistrate stage, remand, regular bail in smaller offencesPCMC Magistrate court
Cheque bounce complaint where the jurisdiction lies in PCMCPCMC Magistrate court
Local civil suits within the civil judge's limitsPCMC civil court
Anticipatory bail, serious offences tried by the Sessions CourtSessions Court — Pune, unless and until a sessions court is functioning in PCMC for that matter
Divorce, custody, maintenanceFamily Court, Shivajinagar — confirm on your notice

How to know for certain

  • Read the top of your summons or notice — it names the court.
  • Search your CNR number on eCourts. The ‘court establishment’ field is the answer.
  • For an FIR, the police station that registered it determines the Magistrate court. Ask your advocate to confirm where the chargesheet has been filed.

Getting there

The Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate metro line connects PCMC with the District Court station at Shivajinagar, which has made travel between the two courts much easier for people who have dates in both.

The bottom line

If you live in Pimpri-Chinchwad, your case may be heard locally or in Shivajinagar depending on its type. Do not rely on habit or word of mouth — check the establishment on eCourts before every new stage of the case.
