Filing a consumer complaint in Pune: what changed with e-Jagriti

Invoices and correspondence prepared for a consumer complaint in Pune

Consumer complaints in Pune are heard by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Pune (there is also an Additional District Commission) where the amount paid for the goods or service is up to ₹50 lakh. Complaints are filed online on the government's e-Jagriti portal, which replaced e-Daakhil from 1 January 2025. You must file within two years of the problem arising, and there is no fee for claims up to ₹5 lakh.

A lot of guidance online still refers to e-Daakhil. The portal has changed, but the law has not: the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 still decides who can complain, where, and within what time.

Which commission

Amount paid for the goods or serviceCommission
Up to ₹50 lakhDistrict Commission, Pune
Above ₹50 lakh, up to ₹2 croreMaharashtra State Commission
Above ₹2 croreNational Commission

The value is what you paid, not what you are claiming as compensation. A Pune flat buyer who paid ₹80 lakh therefore goes to the State Commission, even if the delay compensation claimed is much smaller.

Filing on e-Jagriti

  • Register on e-jagriti.gov.in with your mobile number and email, verified by OTP.
  • Choose to file a new consumer complaint, select Maharashtra and Pune, and enter the amount paid and claimed.
  • Upload the complaint, an affidavit, and supporting documents as PDFs.
  • Pay the fee online where one applies, and note the reference number.
  • The Commission then considers admission and issues notice to the company.
Before filing: send the company a written complaint and keep its reply, or proof that it did not reply. Commissions look for evidence that you gave the company a fair chance to fix the problem.

What makes a strong complaint

  • The invoice, receipt, policy or agreement
  • The brochure, advertisement or website claim you relied on
  • Every email, chat and call record with the company
  • Photographs, and an expert or service-centre report where a defect is technical
  • A clear statement of what you want — refund, replacement, repair, compensation, costs

How long it takes

The Act aims for disposal within three months where no testing of goods is needed, and five months where it is. In practice, cases in Pune often take longer, particularly where the company contests every point. Many settle once the company has filed its reply and can see the strength of the documents.

The bottom line

Write to the company first, keep every document, check which commission your amount falls under, and file on e-Jagriti within two years. Most consumer cases are won or lost on paperwork prepared before filing.
